Beating breast cancer every day!

Survival Stories

"My first Impression of Dr. Keeney was that she is acutely intelligent, and has a sincere appreciation for her expertise in breast disease.

I was immediately impressed with Dr. Keeney because of her obvious experience, reputation, skill, and her gentle and focused demeanor. She is confident but humble, always available, and holds the office to the highest standards.

Dr. Keeney made sure that I was prepared for every aspect of the journey. I always felt welcomed and cared about from the front desk to the kind, patient and calming nurses to meeting with Dr. Keeney herself. It was not a difficult decision to choose Dr. Keeney. Dr. Keeney has an impressive proven background and accomplished history in breast care, and the office staff are well informed and involved every step of the way.

Dr. Keeney’s office made the entire process more easeful and I received the best hands on and emotional care by keeping me informed with care and respect. The experience as a whole exceeded my expectations with the knowledgeable office staff, hospital that she operates in and excellent care I received.

Even with the natural element of nervousness, I had not doubt making decisions with Dr. Keeney and I was completely prepared the day of surgery. It was comforting not to worry about the decisions that were made about my treatment plan because I intimately knew and as informed about the options and potential outcome of my “choices”. I always felt at ease during conversations and decisions that could be uncomfortable or frightening to address for many.

The office is solely devoted to breast disease and has a very understanding environment that exceeded my expectations. I am grateful to Dr. Keeney for her commitment to breast health and her mission to maintain and improve the health of her patients. It is very obvious that the wellbeing of her patients is her top priority."

Not only do I not have to look at scars that make me feel embarrassed, but my husband can look at me and not even notice that I had surgery.

Nipple Sparing Mastectomy

I could have had a lumpectomy... but I preferred the more aggressive bilateral mastectomy. I look the same, because with the Nipple Sparing you look at yourself and say ‘these are the same’.

On Nov of 2012 I went for my year mammogram which I almost cancelled because I thought everything was fine. Well it wasn't they had found a lump I had to have a biopsy done and on December 5th is when I heard those word you have cancer. I was numb I didn't know what to feel. I had a double mastectomy and 24 lymphnoids removed followed by 8 rounds of chemo and 33 radiation treatment. I had reconstructive surgery done. I am very happy to say that I'm a 5 year stage 3 breast cancer survivor. I am so thankful for my family who got me through this and of course Upstate Cancer Center.
